Over the years, the journey undertook by LOOP has foreseen the creation of multiple projects and an ever-growing community of collaborators, whose recollections contribute today to the outlining of a historical and collective memory. A memory that could be thought of as a physical constellation punctuated by its very agents, or a temporal diagram configured by imperceptible yet continue leaps between the past and the present. Have a look at our history and become part of it....read more, here
A step back in time... (The Festival)
By taking a step back in time, this year's edition of LOOP will then propose a wide review of early video art, through a selection of projects originating from a constant dialogue with both lifelong and novel collaborators.

Over a period of ten days, the Festival will take hold of the city of Barcelona with a range of video proposals created between the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, and selected thanks to the curatorial advice of Eugeni Bonet and Antoni Mercader. Breakthrough individual installations and single channel projections by artists such as Chip LordAntoni MuntadasDavid HallBeryl KorotMary LucierSteina and Woody Vasulka, and Peter Weibel, as well as monographic exhibitions dedicated to key figures like Andy WarholPaul McCarthy and Tony Oursler will offer a broad panorama of the manifold uses of video since its inception. A series of film programmes, workshops and presentations will complement the selection and highlight specific moments in the history of video, both at a local and international level. More to come...

...until reaching the present (The Fair)
According to an invisible thread unrolling over time and joining together the past and the present, the Fair’s selection will propose instead an insight into the current moving image panorama. The committee, chaired by Jean-Conrad Lemaître and composed by international collectors and art experts Isabelle LemaîtreMarc & Josée GensollenRenée Drake and Haro Cumbusyan, is currently reviewing the video and film proposals for this year’s edition. More participants and news will be announced in the coming weeks...

Learn more about the members of the LOOP Fair Committee...
Marc and Josée Gensollen began collecting contemporary art in the late 1970s. Since then, they have gathered a studied selection of works arranged in dialogue with their domestic space in Marseille, La Fabrique.

As they state in the interview featured in I Have a Friend Who Knows Someone Who Bought a Video, Once (LOOP Barcelona, Mousse Publishing, 2016), they are fully aware of the peculiarities and difficulties related to the production, display and conservation of video art (read the full text here). This is why they have decided to actively support video creation and took a stand in a meeting like LOOP Fair. The Carré d'Art-Musée d'art contemporain de Nîmes is currenlty presenting a selection of their collection: Du verbe à la communication, curated by Jean-Marc Prevost.
